A Word on Worship from the Worship Leader
Much has been said about worship. The question is always upon church leaders, “how can we get people excited about worship?” Glades has spent a considerable amount of time talking about it and praying about it and trying different approaches. Here are a few things that I believe about worship:
1. There are only 2 people who can get you “excited” about worship: You and Jesus.
2. Worship may or may not have anything to do with excitement.
3. What you get from worship is directly affected by what you put into worship.
4. Worship “in spirit and in truth” cannot be conjured up in 21 minutes on Sunday morning.
5. Your personal experience in worship is directly dependant upon your personal relationship with Jesus Christ on a DAILY basis.
6. Worship can be moving, quiet, reverent and emotional. It’s not always loud and raucous and “exciting” and happy and FUN! Sometimes we allow worship to fall into the false attitude that movement and noise = progress. Sometimes movement and noise is just movement and noise.
A talented person, with a charismatic attitude and a dynamic personality, can stand up in any arena and, given enough time, can get almost anyone excited. But that is not necessarily WORSHIP.
In order to truly worship God, we have to know Him. How can we know Him whom the scripture says cannot be known? The only way we can know God is to be lead to the knowledge of him through his Son by the Holy Spirit. If you do not completely open yourself to the Holy Spirit, you cannot be lead to Jesus. If you don’t know Jesus, you can’t know God. If you don’t know God, you can’t worship in spirit and in truth. And friends, that isn’t anyone’s fault but your own.
